Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011
Sean Lesczynski is an up and coming guitarist and musician in New York set to graduate from The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School with a degree in jazz performance. Coinciding with his graduation he is set to perform an hour long suite of original music titled Viridian on December 14th.
Each of the six pieces that comprise the suite is titled after a different shade of green; serving as the inspiration for the compositional material of each piece. By choosing specific intervals and modalities that best embody each type of green, each individual piece supports the larger suite as it shifts from shade to shade, leading the listener through the entire spectrum of the color. He will be joined by Chris Garriga (drums), Vini Cajado (bass), Nitsan Kolko (piano), Judette Elliston (voice), and Moe Feinburg (trumpet).
This project is the culmination of Sean’s two and a half years at the New School and was inspired by his ensemble and composition studies with pianist Andy Milne and harmonica player Gregoire Maret. His personal approach to his instrument is one of sensitivity and melodicism, developed during his years of study with Gilad Hekselman and Rotem Sivan.
Sean came to jazz later in life, not having been exposed to jazz or the guitar until his late teens. After completing a degree in Chinese Language and Literature at George Washington University in Washington, DC, he began his informal studies when he moved to San Francisco, ultimately choosing to pursue his education at The New School to be a part of the immersive jazz environment the New York jazz scene offered.
