On Saturday, November 16 we will be holding a symposium as part of the NSSR Centennial, entitled: The New School, Then and Now.
This symposium will include an opening panel of speakers discussing the founding vision of the New School. Following the opening panel, we will offer a series of workshops offered in various disciplines to prepare ourselves for imagining not only what the New is, but also for creating a feeling of the New. In these workshops we hope to capture the excitement and experience of the New as a jumping off point—a point of departure from which we can think about ways in which the spirit of the new can be reinvigorated, re-imagined, and therefore rearticulated today. The event will conclude with an ice cream social in which we will think about the ways that the vision at the founding of TNS might resonate today, not only with students, but with a broader, more diverse and inclusive community of learners to address the social, economic, and political needs of our contemporary situation.
