DESCRIPTION:This event will feature a screening of Lynn Hershman Leeson's C
onceiving Ada followed by a Q&A with the director. \n\nIn her inspired cros
sover from video artist to feature writer/ director\, Lynn Hershman Leeson
grafts past and future into an ingenious high-tech fantasy of time travel.
Her subject is the legendary and real-life Lady Ada Lovelace\, Lord Byron's
daughter\, who grew into a math genius and the inventor of THE FIRST compu
ter language . Casting the inimitable Tilda Swinton as Ada\, Hershman Leeso
n creates an aura of magic that plays against modern computer visions as it
reconstructs a life dominated by love and SCIENCE. Conceiving Ada concerns
the obsession of one contemporary hacker\, Emmy\, obsessed with inventing
a mechanism that will enable her to enter the past and make direct contact
with Lovelace\, her object of fascination. Emmy is on a rescue mission: to
connect with Ada and access her knowledge before her own premature death ob
literates the legacy. (Excerpt from B. Ruby Rich\, 1998 Sundance Film Festi
val program)\n\nLynn Hershman Leeson has been internationally acclaimed for
her art and films. Her artwork is featured in the public collections of th
e Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum\, the Zentrum fur Kunst und Medientechnologie (Z
KM)\, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, The Tate Modern\, The National
Gallery of Canada\, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Modern Art\, i
n addition to many celebrated private collections. She received the d.velop

eld of Media. She has also received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Founda
tion Fellowship. A major retrospective and catalogue is scheduled in 2014 a
t the ZKM Museum in Germany and the Museum der Moderne Museum in Salzburg.

st\, Strange Culture\, and !Women Art Revolution – have been showcased at t
