Electric Miles Ensemble Directed By Adam Holzman | Fall '19 Ensemble & Recital Series

Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

School of Jazz Performance Space, Room I531, Arnhold Hall 55 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011

Performance is a central component of every student's education at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the Ensemble Showcases are where faculty-led student groups showcase their talent and creativity.

The Electric Miles Ensemble covers arrangements of mid-to-late eighties Miles Davis repertoire, including material from We Want Miles, You’re Under Arrest, Tutu, Amandla, and Live Around The World. The ensemble uses the music and format of Miles’s later bands as a framework for exploring fresh approaches to comping and soloing. Modern rhythm section ideas, superimposing chords over static harmonies, polytonal street grooves, etc., are explored.

Presented by the School Jazz and Contemporary Music at the College of Performing Arts
